Usabillity and accessibility

Accessibility and usability issues are of great importance when designing technologies for elderly people and persons with cognitive disabilities.

The PIA project applies a wide range of usability and accessibility guidelines, both for mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablet PCs, and for web applications. Examples of relevant design guidelines and considerations are:

  1. Principles of Universal Design (NC State University)
  2. Mobile Web Best Practices 1.0 (W3C)
  3. Cognitive Disabilites: Design Considerations (Web AIM)

The PIA project will also apply available guidelines for content production, especially guidelines focussing on cognitive accessibility. Examples are the DEEP guides for:

  1. Creating websites for people with dementia
  2. Guidance for film-makers working with people with dementia
  3. Writing dementia-friendly information
